| In the past few weeks my life has been so hectic that I haven't really known what to so. I have had the worries about my surgery and what the diagnosis would be. I have been experiencing the worst type of cabin fever since I haven't been out of the house. Finally, going from about four or more hours of activity a day to none has really made me feel like a bum. But thankfully this week was full of good news. On Wednesday I went to the doctor and he informed me that my specific type of cancer is the easiest and best to deal with. I will not have to undergo any sort of chemotherapy, or other painful treatment. Yesterday they scanned my cat to make sure that there was not cancer in my chest or abdomen and I find out next Wednesday if everything is clear. The only treatment that I will go through is three weeks of radiation treatment after graduation. I am lucky because I do not have to begin the treatment right away. Plus, for those of you that don't know, radiation treatment is basically the experience of an x-ray. Like I said, I will go in for three weeks, but I only have five minutes of treatment everyday. It seems a bit ridiculous but I will gladly cope with this as opposed to the other possibilities. Once again I would like to thank you all for your prayers, calls, and messages. It was very nice to hear from people that care during this difficult time. I will be coming back to Geneva in a few hours, so I will see everybody there soon. | | |
| Well, I went in for my first operation ever yesterday. With a great amount of anxiety I was wheeled in the main room, and gently eased into slumber. When I awoke I was given a cup of water and two slices of toast with peanut butter on them which was really nice since I hadn't eaten since midnight. It was at this point I was informed by my parents that I indeed had testicular cancer. The doctor had removed the cancer during the surgery and now I wait until next Wednesday for the biopsy to come back, and to find out if I need any further treatment. The great news is, as ridiculous as this sounds, that if I was to have any type of cancer this would be the one to pick. Apparently testicular cancer has a survival rate of 99% or higher. Hopefully I will be back at Geneva this Wednesday after my follow-up appointment with the doctor. Lastly, I just want to thank all of you for your kind words, generous calls/texts, and prayer. This wouldn't have been very easy to get through without the support of good friends. | | |
| Last Wednesday I went to visit the doctor because I noticed something out of the ordinary and I hadn't had a check-up in at least two years. After the exam, the doctor wanted to have some tests run immediately. They took blood, I went in for an ultrasound, and I scheduled a follow-up appointment for next Monday, March 24th. However, this past Saturday I received a phone call from my mother that the doctor wanted to see me and her as soon as possible. This caused a great amount of nervousness and fear on my part. Well, Monday afternoon, around 4:00, I walked into the doctor's office. He informed me that this Thursday I would be undergoing an exploratory operation/biopsy to see if I in fact have...testicular cancer. I was completely blown away, and for most of the day I have had all the emotion of a pod person. The good news in this situation is that the blood tests came back negative. While that is a great sign, it is not absolute. I may still have it. The good thing is that whether I have it or not, this surgery will not only serve to find the cancer, but remove it as well. I don't often ask this and in fact I don't think that I have ever really requested people to do this for me, but please keep me in your prayers. I do not yet know the time that I will be having the surgery, but I am extremely anxious and nervous. As I am posting this on Xanga, I am not all that concerned with keeping this a secret, so don't feel that you have to. I simply did not want to call everybody, upset as I was, explaining that I was going to have an operation. That is all for now... Feel free to call my cell phone if you want. | | |
| Over the course of my college career, Jon Rhoden and Elliot Livenspire have been looked upon as lazy slackers. I am here today to tell you that while this assumption maybe be right, this morning something changed. A monumental blip in the space time continuum. While the two of us have been roommates the past few years many previous milestones were reached. Between us we have probably stayed up a for 48-hours straight twenty times or more, and 36-hours straight at least ten times. We have skipped more classes than any other two people combined. And we have procrastinated on every single assignment that has been assigned. This morning at 7:00 we got up, got dressed, walked over to the track, and ran about a mile and a half. I know what you are thinking. There is no way that Jon and Elliot did that! Well folks, it happened, so believe it. The even crazier part is this. We plan on trying to do this several times a week, and possibly even everyday. I have to say that it has been a long time since I ran just for the sake of running, but I would recommend it to anybody. It made me feel really good today, and while I may be sore tomorrow, I will be getting up early and starting out my day with a purpose. | | |
| Here is the new scoop. I will be returning to Geneva to take BIO 101 with Dr. Sas in the spring. I wish that I could take it somwhere else, because it would be cheaper, but since I have no mode of transportation or documentation to verify my vehicle operatory status, I am stuck with the good old Geneva way of schooling. The nice thing is I get to be around the people on campus for one semester, as when I leave I will miss everybody terribly. Another positive is that this will be the only class I am taking, and it is on Tuesday and Thursday. With me being off-campus I do not have to worry about chapel attendance. Hooray! Because I have so much free time I will be picking up a job to pay the bills. If anybody is aware of something open in the Geneva area please let me know. Plus, I will hopefully be going to Duquesne Universoty on the 4th of January for The Western Pennsylvania Broadcast Job Fair. If anybody else is interested in this field of study let me know and we could try and find a way down there. Apparently it is a great place to make contacts for getting into radio and television work. I am currently in Chicago visiting with family, then I go to Indiana to see my dad, then I go home to Ohio to be with my mom, then I go to Beaver Falls, then I go to Eastern Pennsylvania to DJ a wedding for a friend, and then finally I get to come back to Beaver Falls. Some break, huh? Well, I hope all of you have a great holiday... | | |
